A complete mathematics program

ICE-EM Mathematics aims to improve mathematics learning for students with a range of abilities, needs and levels of interest. The development team has thoroughly reviewed the mathematics curriculum for each state and territory and has produced materials to cover the appropriate content. The structure of the materials, coupled with professional development, enables teachers to develop programs to suit their students’ needs.

Textbooks for Upper Primary to Year 10

The full set of textbooks consists of Transition 1 and 2 for the last two years of primary school and Secondary 1 to 4 for students up to Year 10. Each book comes in two volumes, the Secondary books with a linked PDF of content on a CD-ROM. Topics are logically organised to build understanding. A range of examples and explorations are included so that students find the concepts natural and usable in practice.

Professional development

Professional development is delivered by teachers for teachers in capital cities and regional centres based on demand. Three free sessions are offered during the year for teachers purchasing multiple copies. The aim of the sessions is to provide an in-depth look at particular areas of mathematics, with discussion of classroom practice.
The program is flexible and the presentations are adapted to the needs of the teachers. All sessions allow time for talking about the program and how it is going in each school. This is an important time to network with other teachers, pick up useful teaching tips and share success stories with others.

In addition to the three free professional development sessions per year, teachers from schools that purchase the books and adopt the program will have access to homework sheets on the ICE-EM Mathematics resources page and receive CD-ROMs with supplementary exercises and test material.

Teacher support

ICE-EM staff are always willing to help teachers, answer questions and discuss the teaching of mathematics. Telephone and email contact with ICE-EM staff has been a highlight for many teachers using ICE-EM Mathematics.
